How to Plan a Whimsical Wedding That Feels Like a Dream

Planning a wedding isn’t just about timelines and checklists, it’s about building a world where your love feels like the main character in a fairytale. A wedding that feels light, magical, and completely you.

If your heart beats for enchanted forests, windswept gowns, and moments that feel like poetry, this one’s for you. Here’s how to plan a whimsical wedding that feels like a dream, from the mood to the magic.

1. Choose a Storybook Worthy Setting

The right venue sets the tone. For a whimsical wedding, think natural, charming, and slightly unexpected.

Ideas:

  • A moss covered forest clearing
  • A vintage greenhouse filled with soft light
  • A mountaintop with sweeping views
  • A hidden garden with wildflowers and stone paths

2. Dress Like a Dream

Your attire doesn’t have to be traditional, it should be you.

For brides:

  • Flowing lace gowns, tulle skirts, soft sleeves, or vintage silhouettes
  • Barefoot for the ceremony? Yes. Velvet boots under your dress? Also yes.

For grooms or partners:

  • Linen suits, earth tones, floral ties, or heirloom pieces
  • Don’t be afraid to add character: suspenders, hats, even a velvet blazer

Let your outfits tell the story of who you are, not who you think you’re supposed to be.

3. Let Nature and Texture Be Your Decor

Whimsical weddings often pull inspiration from the natural world.

Details to play with:

  • Ferns, moss, or trailing ivy as table runners
  • Candles in antique brass holders
  • Loose, wild florals with texture and movement
  • Hanging installations or dried flower clouds
  • Velvet linens, torn-edge stationery, crystal goblets

Don’t worry about things matching perfectly. Let it feel lived in, romantic, and soft.

4. Build a Playlist That Feels Like Magic

What’s a whimsical wedding without music that makes your heart float?

Mix in:

  • Instrumental covers of your favorite songs
  • Harp, violin, or acoustic guitar
  • Slow indie love songs or cinematic orchestral pieces

Think “Bridgerton meets Bon Iver meets Florence + The Machine.”

5. Focus on Feeling, Not Perfection

Whimsy comes from freedom, the freedom to be present, to laugh mid-ceremony, to twirl barefoot under the stars.

Let go of the pressure to be “Pinterest perfect” and instead plan with intention.

Ask yourself:

  • What would make this day feel like us?
  • What can we do to slow down and savor it?

Plan the pretty things, yes. But also plan margin for magic.

6. Hire Vendors Who Get Your Vision

Work with creatives who don’t just see your wedding as a checklist, but as a love story.

As a photographer, I don’t just pose you. I guide you into moments that feel real. I want you to look back and feel the breeze in your hair, the goosebumps on your arms, the way you laughed with your whole soul.

Let’s Make Whimsy Your Reality

If you’re dreaming of a wedding that’s magical, emotional, and beautifully unconventional — I would be honored to tell your story.

Let’s bring your fairytale to life.
